The Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), Hyderabad Regional Chapter (HRC) hosted the fourth edition of its prestigious flagship event, IIID Showcase Insider X 2022, from June 3-5 at Hitex Exhibition Centre. The theme for this year’s showcase was Telangana art and craft.
Curated by Architects and Interior Designers of the Institute of Indian Interior Designers, Hyderabad Chapter, the Expo was specifically crafted for the interior design, architecture and construction industry. The expo was aimed to bring industry professionals and the common man onto a single platform. Spread over three days, the B2B Trade Expo showcased emerging trends and contemporary design solutions. The exhibition showcased the best and latest trends for interiors, with the participation of over 120 exhibitors and 500 brands from 50 categories.
This time the showcase was based on a theme of Arts & Crafts with a motto to familiarise the design community with the options available from our country’s vast, rich and traditional artefacts and crafts, while encouraging the Artisans, weavers and craftsmen of the Art & Crafts industry, IIID-HRC conducted educative workshops for the Designers, Students, and Architects.
Some highlights of the exhibition were the
Student Works: There were a series of workshops and competitions for Architecture and Interior Design students across Hyderabad. The students from across 20 colleges participated in various workshops and competitions like Design Intervention, a workshop on Best out of waste, and the Design competition. Winners were felicitated during the event and works of these students were displayed in the showcase.
Bamboo Workshop: A bamboo workshop was conducted to educate the students and the design fraternity on how bamboo as a sustainable material can be used for both structural and decorative purposes. The workshop was curated by Ar. Sudhir Reddy under the tutelage of Ar. Sankalpa Professor at CEPT Ahmedabad, Er. Manu Narendran, Ar. Hlatun, Ar. Nawazish Kirmani, practising Architects, Bamboo work specialists and Urban Designers.
Arts & Crafts Pavilion: There was a display of Art & Craft installations designed and crafted by Eminent Designers Supraja Rao, Kunal Shah, Soga by Sonali and Gajender, Priyanka Narula and Hoozinc. The theme was curated by Ar. Yeshwant Ramamurthy and executed by Ar. Nilesh and Ar. Kasi Raju.
Best out of Waste competition: The `Best out of Waste’ competition sensitised the students to minimise waste and motivated them to recycle the waste to create structures and installations. The Best from the waste workshop by the students and the design competition were curated by Ar. Sridhar Reddy and the mentors were Ar. Aparna Bidarkar, Ar. Amita Raj and Ar. Sushmita subudhi.
Stall Design Competition: The design competition was aimed at encouraging the participants to showcase their talent and for the industry and participants to witness the new innovations and ideas in the industry.
Telangana’s culture & art and craft were the theme of this Showcase. From Bathukamma display, to workshops for the students and participants by artisans from Cheriyal, Pochampalli, and leather puppetry by craftsmen from Anantapur.
IIID is in its 50th year of establishment and the Hyderabad Chapter celebrated its 25th year last year. This Showcase was an attempt to reach out to all the designers and is the biggest event in this category held in the combined Telugu states. Featured in the image above are the chapter heads of the 33 chapters of IIID in India.
Apart from students, designers, and architects, the event was graced by dignitaries like SS Rajamouli (one of the best directors in the country), Somesh kumar (Chief Secretary to Telangana State) IAS Arvind Kumar(Special Chief Secretary, MAUD, Govt. of Telangana). The event concluded with a grand gala night!
